Neil Murray: July 2010
Hi Folks,
Well winter is upon us and apart from an appearance at Bendigo Folk Club on June 25th (which was a deluxe evening) Neil has been spending time exclusively in Central Australia since completing shows in Melbourne, Mildura and Adelaide on the way north.
The Singing Gallery in McLaren Vale, SA has become one of Neil’s favourite venues. Almost 90 people witnessed an enthralling set by Neil in the exquisite old church on May 29th.
The show at the Promethean in Adelaide the following night saw Neil perform a solo set and then a set accompanied by Adelaide musicians Denis Surmon, (bass) Trevor Draper (drums) and Richard Coates (piano and accordian.) Thanks must go to Jeff Parham for his enthusiasm in making this happen and for promoting and helping to organise the Adelaide gig generally. Thanks and appreciation must also be extended to Chris Rogers from Soundtrap Music for his tireless efforts in keeping quality music alive in Mildura and for organising Neil’s show there at the Setts on May 27th.
And while we are at it, lets pay tribute to Leanne Menard who has been Neil’s publicist from January till June . Thanks Leanne for your valuable work in helping to promote the Witness tour and album.
It may have been a chilly evening but atleast 100 people braved the outdoors to hear Neil live at the Beantree Café in the Olive Pink Botanic Gardens in Alice Springs on Saturday June 5th. Support act "Minority Sun" presented a refreshing new slant for original music emanating from Alice Springs.
Your Say:
Loved Neil's gig at the Northcote Social Club :-)
Particularly magic was Burrumbeep Hill.... as I was on the Eel walk that year :-) Magic!
And the spoken word thing... it was me that requested 'Neptune's Eyes'.
Thanks Neil.

Hi there ... if you could please pass on our "warm" thanks to Neil for his out-door performance in zero degree winter conditions at Alice Springs last night ... he kept going and going and entertained us until we were frozen :-) Which we appreciate immensely!
And the new album is great value ..
Cheers, Peter [June Alice Springs]

- Iconic Songs
Panelists: Archie Roach, Shane Howard, Neil Murray
Topic: My Island Home', 'Took the Children Away' and 'Solid Rock' are some of the most iconic Indigenous songs of our time. In an absolutely unmissable festival session, singers Archie Roach, Neil Murray and Shane Howard describe the amazing process of committing these songs to a series of newly published books, featuring artwork from the late Ruby Hunter, with the support of the Ian Thorpe Foundation. All three musicians will perform, describe their experiences and – should there be any doubt – underline the massive cultural significance of the iconic songs they share
